Adventure. Feast. Repeat.

Designed for busy home cooks, this book focuses on meals that are practical, affordable, and deeply satisfying—without complicated techniques or hard-to-find ingredients.

Whether you’re feeding your family on a weeknight or preparing a feast for game night, you don’t need a professional kitchen or years of experience. All you need is a desire to bring a little creativity and adventure to your kitchen.

And maybe a sword, just in case. Because you never know what the scent of a pie left to cool on a windowsill might attract.

In addition to 90+ from-scratch recipes, the book includes special sections such as a metric/imperial conversion chart, suggestions for glass decorations and enhancements, and a fantasy charcuterie guide with inspiration for creating a beautiful feast board and decorative table.

Here are the recipe sections and a few of their offerings (every section includes several more recipes):

FAQs

What makes this a “fantasy” cookbook? Is it real or not?

These are real comfort food recipes inspired by history and fantasy. As a writer and lover of fantasy novels, Jamie wanted recipes that gave a cozy, comforting, or merry aura while cooking, serving, or eating, without being too difficult to cook. This collection is the result.

Inside you’ll find easily approachable modern and historical recipes from countries all over the world, including England (modern and Anglo-Saxon), Ireland, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, France, historic America, India, the ancient Yucatán peninsula, and Hungary (pun intended). Of course there are more, and many recipes are unique and original, or just fun with a fantastical twist. If an edible delight could be spotted in a hobbit hole, a fae court, or a dungeon-delver’s bottomless bag of holding, you might find its recipe in this cookbook.

We have to spend time in the kitchen anyway. So let’s make cooking fun.

Does this cookbook require special equipment or advanced cooking experience?

No. All recipes are designed to be able to be cooked in a standard American home kitchen. Some recipes are more difficult than others, but there are no advanced techniques required, and everything is explained. Minimal cooking experience should suffice.

Do the recipes call for ingredients that are difficult to acquire?

Jamie specifically tried NOT to call for difficult ingredients, but really, it depends on where you live. Regardless, most of the recipes use common ingredients.

If you’re living in the USA, most uncommon ingredients should be available to you with little trouble. The rarest ingredients include buckwheat flour, barley, lentils, juniper berries, chickpeas, and rye flour—all of which Jamie found at her local grocery stores in Texas.

Other ingredients such as vanilla beans, specialty teas, and pearl sugar are available for purchase online. And some ingredients are seasonal or more or less available depending on your location, such as poblano peppers, jicama, rhubarb, and butternut squash.

Some reward tiers include certain cooking ingredients when possible, so they can be shipped to you along with the cookbook.

What units of measurement does this book use?

Freedom units—ounces, pounds, tablespoons, cups, Fahrenheit.

However, there is a chart in the front of the cookbook for easily converting to metric units including milliliters, grams, and Celsius.

Is there any special content in this cookbook, or just recipes?

In addition to 90+ recipes, there are also special sections including:

  • inspiration for glass decorations and enhancements for drinks
  • a charcuterie section with dozens of suggestions for creating a feast board
  • suggestions for arrangements and story elements to give your table a cozy fantasy feel
