My creativity cratered. The ability to write evaporated.

I would sit down and just stare at my laptop screen.

Nothing.

It wasn’t like I didn’t have any ideas. I had plenty of mischievous and dastardly plans just ready and waiting to spill their drama all over the page.

But if I forced myself to write fiction during my high-risk pregnancy, or the many sleepless nights that followed, I knew there would be little quality or life behind the words. And my perceptive readers would be able to sense that something was different.

I’m a perfectionist. I want my books to be the absolute best they can be.

My readers deserve it.

If I can’t deliver excellence, then I don’t want to write.

So while I healed and recovered, and my baby grew, I created a cookbook instead—The Cozy Fantasy Cookbook I’d been dreaming of and collecting recipes for since folks at the church potluck started complimenting my curious offerings.

Have I been to culinary school, you might ask? No. Have I ever worked in a restaurant? No.

My only claim to food fame is winning “Schmeckenmeister”—a title earned at a wassail competition and acknowledged by at least three enthusiastic carolers.

I’m just a mom who loves cooking, fantasy, and history, and who tries to get a homemade, from-scratch dinner on the table for my family every night. As the chaos allows.

I want to be that grandma all the kids want to visit, because of her warm cookies and the comforting scents always hovering around her cottage.

So I set out to find recipes that everyone loves (quite a difficult feat to accomplish, as every parent knows). As I spent more and more time in the kitchen, I leaned in the direction of fun. I wanted recipes that gave a cozy, comforting, or merry aura while cooking, serving, or eating, without being too difficult to cook. Bonus points for invoking the Shire or Cair Paravel.

The collection of recipes in The Cozy Fantasy Cookbook is the result. I hope it brings you and your loved ones much joy.

We have to spend time in the kitchen anyway. So let’s make cooking fun.
